About AMP III Strings

 

Course Description

Prerequisites:  Ability to read music, ability to play 4 major and 4 minor scales in at least 2 octaves from memory, some knowledge of first through third position.  

 

This class is for the more advanced young musician who has had three or more years of playing experience either in ensemble and/or private instruction.  Students will learn intermediate to advanced technique, three-octave major and minor scales, as well as music theory and ear training. The students will play intermediate to advanced ensemble and solo repertoire and will regularly perform for one another during class. They will also prepare and perform ensemble and solo works for the AMP recital at the end of the semester. Students will be expected to practice a minimum of 30 minutes per day.

About the Instructor

Violinist Velda Kelly has been teaching and performing in metropolitan Detroit since 1983.  She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from Boston University.  Her violin teachers included Henry Meyer, Joseph Silverstein and Denes Zsigmondy.  Ms. Kelly is a member of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra and is co-artistic director of Chamber Music at the Scarab Club.  In addition to serving on the faculty at Madonna University, she also performs as an extra musician with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has a large class of private violin students.
